AFFF Fire Extinguishers

The MCA Approved One Day Firefighting course is aimed at skippers and crew of small workboats and small commercial vessels. The course is primarily for those working under the requirements of Workboat Code 3 and also meets the criteria for those applying for their MCA Boatmaster Licence (BML).

The course aims to provide candidates with the knowledge of how fire starts on board and how to prevent it, and ensure they are confident in the procedures to follow in the event of a fire.

And there’s more . . . . As an MCA approved STCW 95 & 2010 fire prevention & firefighting training facility, we will also give you the opportunity to learn hose and nozzle techniques, casualty searches, casualty recovery and take part in an exercise in our realistic ship fire training structure.

The course is delivered using a combination of classroom sessions and practical session (using extinguishers and fire blankets) to consolidate the skills and procedures taught. The course covers:

  • Understanding how fire starts and spreads through a vessel

  • Actions to be taken on the discovery of a fire or upon hearing the alarm

  • The different types and correct use of extinguishers

  • Fire fighting equipment and tactics

  • Fire fighting and fire extinguishing using portable equipment

We run this course almost every Monday. Bespoke courses on alternative days can be arranged for individuals and groups.
